First off, thank you all for your wonderful suggestions!! I love you all and am excited to have your support and encouragement in this journey. I do plan on doing (and reporting on) each of the things you suggested, but I thought I would start with one that I could easily add into my day to day life, and then build from there. For that reason, my first “experiment” is to meditate daily. I have a few websites (thanks Bub!) with 3 minute meditations, as well as a C.D. (thanks Elise!) with a longer meditation for when I have a bit more time.
So, on days (like today) when I have a pretty jam packed day, I'd like to just spend a few minutes focusing on clearing my head, and trying to just let myself be without getting whipped away in my thoughts. And on days when I have more time, particularly those days when I perhaps have more opportunity to feel lonely or sorry for myself, I'd like to spend a good chunk of time focusing on it. I was talking to a close friend today and we were talking about how meditation should kind of be your time to just sit and be in the moment, to see your thoughts, acknowledge them, and then let them pass you by. I think this will be such a useful skill for me to learn and be able to implement when I'm trying to deal with the negative thoughts that sometimes seem to plague my mind. I also think it may be something I can eventually work into a daily routine (another “experiment” suggested by one of my dearest friends.) I'm excited to try this out and report back on it! If any of you have any useful tips or tricks or just ideas, I'd love to hear them!
